Eligibility Criteria:

  • Participants must hold a first-year university bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • The most recent university degree earned within the last six years is required.
  • Graduates in the fields of social sciences, political science, law, economics, and public administration are eligible for the DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship.
  • Applicants must be from a developing country.
  • Applicants must submit their applications in either German or English.
  • All Master’s programmes have extra prerequisites that must be met by the applicant.

The following documents are needed to apply for the DAAD Helmut Schmidt Scholarship 2024:

  • The DAAD Scholarship and Research Grant Application form (handwritten and electronically edited)
  • Applicants should submit a hand-signed and dated motivation letter (a single letter for both universities) in which they articulate their academic/professional and personal motivations for selecting those master’s programmes.
  • Your hand-signed, dated curriculum vitae must include details regarding your specific area of study, your political and social involvement, and your experience, if applicable.
  • Please provide a copy of the degree acquired (certified translation is required, and a brief explanation of the grading system is enclosed)
  • Please provide a copy of the transcript of records (if a certified translation is required)
  • Certificates of recent language proficiency (German and/or English)
  • The letter of recommendation from your university professor or employer should be signed and recently dated by them, along with an official letterhead and stamp (not in a sealed envelope)
  • Providing documentary evidence of relevant professional experience listed in your CV via certificates of employment, if applicable, is a good idea.
