International students wishing to study in Japan may apply for MEXT Scholarship 2024-2025, which are fully funded scholarships. Applicants of this scholarship can choose to complete studies towards an undergraduate degree, master’s degree, PhD, or training. You will be reimbursed for tuition fees, housing expenses, monthly living allowances and round-trip airfare from your country to Japan as part of the MEXT scholarship.

Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships Program provides scholarships to international students seeking to study at Japanese universities as undergraduates or researchers (masters / PhDs) under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

The application cycle for the MEXT Japanese Government Scholarships is normally announced in April of each year. Applicants for this scholarship are not required to be proficient in Japanese and to have taken the IELTS/TOEFL exam. The scholarship has been recommended by the MEXT embassy. Eligibility Criteria:

The following requirements must be met by candidates to be eligible for MEXT Scholarship:

  • Required Language: English
  • Eligible Countries: Applicants from all around the world are elgible to apply.
  • It is mandatory for applicants to be nationals of a country with diplomatic ties to Japan at the time of application.
  • The applicant must not have the nationality of Japan at the time that the application is made.
  • For Undergraduate Students: Applicants must be 17 years of age or younger, be under 25 years old, and have attended 12 years of schooling or a school comparable to a high school (including prospective graduates).
  • For Masters / PhD Student: The applicant must have completed a college education (this includes prospective graduates) with no more than 35 years of age, or he / she must have completed a minimum of 16 years or 18 years of education.
  • For Teacher training students: Students must be under 35 years of age and graduates of an educational institution. Applicants must have worked as a teacher in a primary, secondary, or teacher training institution for at least five years.
  • Japanese Study Students: Applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 30. Students must be enrolled as undergraduates in a university outside of Japan where Japanese language or Japanese culture is majored when they come to Japan. When they return to their home countries, applicants must be enrolled in their home institutions.

  • Please download and complete the application form for the MEXT scholarship program.
  • You must submit the required documents (see below) to the Japanese Embassy in your country.
  • The Japanese Embassy will conduct a written examination.

  • Applicants for the Bachelor’s degree program must have 12 years of education
  • Applicants for the Master’s program must possess a bachelor’s degree
  • Applicants for the PhD program must possess a master’s degree

Note: You are required to provide a notarized copy of the English translation of the degree if it is not in English.

3- Officially stamped transcript of highest degree. (Including the grading system)

  • Applicants for the Bachelor’s degree program must have 12 years of education
  • Applicants for the Master’s program must submit a copy of their bachelor’s degree transcript
  • Applicants for the PhD program must submit a transcript of their master’s degree

Note: The diploma must be translated into English by a notary public, if the diploma is not in English.

4- Two recommendation letters: In order to be considered for admission, the applicant must have two letters of recommendation from teachers/advisers/employers (who are able to assess the applicant’s academic performance and research potential) written either in English or in Spanish. 6- A curriculum vitae (CV) (for students enrolled in a research program)

7- Color photographs

8- Study plan / Statement of purpose. English is the language of the study plan. An application’s basic content should include the applicant’s motivation, his or her educational background, and his or her prospective studies at APU. (For students conducting research)

9- English Language Proficiency Document: Students enrolled in English language institutes are exempted from taking the language test if their home university issues an English proficiency certificate.

10- Thesis or relevant publication from an academic institution (for research students)
